**How Can a Person Love God With All Their Heart, Soul, and Strength?

A Practical Explanation for Life on Earth

The biblical command, “Love the Lord your God with all your heart, all your soul, all your mind, and all your strength” (Deut 6:5; Mark 12:30), describes a total, integrated love.

It is not about instant perfection but about a lifelong relationship that grows.

Below is a clear and practical explanation of what each part means and how a person can actually live this out every day.

1. Loving God “with all your heart”

In Scripture, the heart means your will, intentions, desires, and decisions.

Practically, this means:

Seeking God’s will in your choices , inviting Him into your plans, decisions, and goals.

Keeping your heart pure , avoiding resentment, bitterness, hypocrisy, and unforgiveness.

Nurturing your inner life through prayer, Scripture, reflection, and silence.

Being honest with God  speaking to Him sincerely, without pretending.

Loving God with your heart means allowing Him to guide your desires and shape what you choose.

2. Loving God “with all your soul”

The soul refers to the whole person  identity, emotions, longings, personality.

Practically:

Bringing your emotions to God, not hiding them: joy, fear, sadness, frustration, gratitude.

Cultivating relationship, not just duty  speaking to God naturally and often.

Living according to the truth of who you are in God’s eyes, not according to the world’s expectations.

Avoiding inner division not living one life in prayer and another in practice.

To love God with your soul means giving Him your whole self  who you are, not just what you do.

 3. Loving God “with all your strength”

Strength refers to your capabilities: time, energy, talents, resources, work, and your physical body.

Practically:

Serving others using your abilities and gifts  in the Church, family, community, or those in need.

Using your time intentionally, giving God the first place, not the leftovers.

Practicing concrete acts of love  helping, giving, forgiving, sacrificing.

Caring for your body, since it is a gift from God; living with moderation and discipline.

Loving God with your strength means letting your daily actions, sacrifices, and labor become expressions of love.

4. Loving God in Everyday Life

Here are key attitudes that unite heart, soul, and strength:

 Gratitude

Being thankful softens the heart and anchors you in God’s goodness.

 Obedience out of love

Jesus said, “If you love Me, keep My commandments.”

Obedience is not fear-based compliance it is love in action.

 Loving your neighbor

You cannot truly love God while hating or neglecting people.

Every act of love toward others is an act of love toward God.

Finding holiness in small things

Daily work, family responsibilities, struggles, interruptions all can be done with God and for God.

Relying on grace, not your own effort

No one can love God perfectly by human strength alone.

God’s love enables your love: “We love because He first loved us.”

 5. The Most Important Truth: Love Grows

Loving God with all your heart, soul, and strength does not mean loving Him perfectly, but loving Him completely with the capacity you have today, while allowing that capacity to grow.

God asks for sincerity, not perfection; for faithfulness, not flawless performance.

 1. Short Prayer

**Lord, give me the grace to love You with all my heart,

to surrender my desires and decisions to You.

Help me to love You with all my soul,

to bring You my thoughts, emotions, and longings.

Help me to love You with all my strength,

with everything I am and everything I have.

Purify my heart, strengthen my faith,

free me from anything that separates me from You.

Let every day be a gift to You,

and let all I do be done out of love for You.

Amen.

📅 2. Daily Plan for Loving God

Morning – “With all your heart”

Spend 1–3 minutes in gratitude: “Thank You for this day.”

A simple offering: “Everything I do today, I do with You.”

Choose one virtue to practice that day (patience, humility, purity of heart, peace…).

During the Day – “With all your soul”

Include God in small moments:

“Lord, help me.”

“Thank You.”

“Stay with me.”

See each person you meet as an opportunity to love.

When strong emotions arise (anger, sadness, stress)  bring them to God instead of hiding or suppressing them.

Actions – “With all your strength”

Do one good deed that requires true effort:

- help someone,

- reach out to someone in need,

- accept a small sacrifice without complaining.

Care for your body: rest well, eat moderately, exercise. Honoring your body is also honoring the Creator.

Evening – “A Love Examination”

Ask yourself three simple questions:

1. Where did I love God today?

2. Where did I forget Him?

3. What do I want to improve tomorrow?

End with a short prayer of trust:

“Lord, receive all the good I have done today and heal what I failed to do.

Thank You.”
