"I AM"

I AM” – A Story of Light in the Darkness"

It was a cold winter evening when David found himself walking the empty streets of his city. The world around him felt heavy,  bills were piling up, his health was fragile, and his prayers seemed unanswered.

For months he had been asking God for a breakthrough, yet silence echoed back.

As he walked, he passed by a small church. Its door was half-open, and inside, the dim light of candles flickered. Drawn by something beyond his understanding, David stepped inside.

On the altar, an open Bible caught his eye. The page was turned to the Gospel of Mark, chapter 14. His eyes fell on the words:

ARE YOU THE MESSIAH, THE SON OF THE BLESSED ONE?” — “I AM,” JESUS ANSWERED."

The words hit him like a wave. “I AM.”

Simple, but eternal. Suddenly, he felt as if God was not far away, not silent, not absent.

He realized that Jesus wasn’t just the Messiah for people 2,000 years ago  He is “I AM” here and now, present in every breath, every struggle, every tear.

David remembered Moses standing before the burning bush, trembling, uncertain, asking who it was that spoke to him. God had answered: “I AM WHO I AM.” And now, in the gospel, Jesus spoke the same words. The connection was clear: the same God who stood with Moses in the desert stood with David in his brokenness.

Tears welled in his eyes. He whispered:

“If You are the great I AM, then You are here with me… even when I cannot see You.

That night, David walked back home not with his problems solved, but with a new strength.

He knew he was not alone. The “I AM” walked beside him.

Life often throws us into seasons where we feel unseen, unheard, and forgotten.

But the words of Jesus in Mark 14:61-62 remind us that He is more than a historical figure, He is alive, present, and unchanging.

When you are afraid, He says: I AM your peace.

When you are weak, He says: I AM your strength.

When you feel lost, He says: I AM the way.

When you doubt your worth, He says: I AM your Shepherd, and you are mine.

Just like David in the story, each of us can encounter the living Christ who still speaks: “I AM.”
